    St. Stephen (Lank-Latum)

St. Stephen is the Roman Catholic parish church of Lank-Latum, a district of the city of Meerbusch in the Rhine district of Neuss.

    History:
The first written mention of a pastor in Lank dates back to 1176, a church was first mentioned in 1202, it was built on the floor of the Lanker Fronhofs of the Abbey Kaiserswerth. 1408 it came with the Lanker parish and the Kaiserswerther chapter because of the making of the church to the dispute.

The church was rebuilt several times. In fires by raids by the Hessian troops in the aftermath of the battle on the Kempener heath in 1642 and 1645, the stone building was completely destroyed and could only be rebuilt in modest scale from 1662. 1770 changes were made to windows and roof. The 1647 cast bell had to be replaced in 1780, as it had jumped. The present three-aisled basilica with rosette ceiling was created with the alterations of the Krefeld city architect Johann Heinrich Freyse 1841 to 1844. It was also the orientation of the church changed. While it was originally built in east-west direction, it stands since the conversions in north-south direction.

From the Romanesque building of the church is today only the tower. The art historian Paul Clemen calls him "one of the stately of its kind." [3] The tower is six-storey and slightly tapered. The second and third storey show three continuous round-arched blinds on each side, the fourth three each with two round bows, the fifth and sixth two shutters with round-arched friezes. The second bell floor and the Gothic slate pyramid were added later.
Since January 1, 2010, the St. Stephen's Church parish church of the newly built parish Hildegundis of sea. The parish unites the communities of the former deanery Meerbusch in the diocese of Aachen.
