The town church tower, which was damaged in the war but later restored, is a reminder of the old town church from the first third of the 19th century. A mighty building, almost 51 meters high. Construction probably began in 1484 and was completed in 1520. But the former church to which it once belonged was already separated at the beginning of the 19th century. To be precise, in 1809, when an old Gothic church had to make way for the new town church. In the middle of the sea of houses in old Giessen, this classicist building, which almost looks like a bastion, rose up, and old photographs give an idea of its magnificent interior.Today, the town church tower, which has housed the Michael Chapel again since the early 1950s, has long been one of the city's landmarks.Anyone who wants to enjoy the view over Giessen can currently get the key to the town church tower in the church shop "directly at the tower" for a deposit of 10 euros and by presenting their ID card. The church shop is open Tuesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The last ascent is possible 45 minutes before the church shop closes.
