Asphalt has a bad reputation, but asphalt is good for cycling as a road surface.
At this point there was cobblestones and very poor asphalt. At the point with the cobblestones the shoulder was very narrow, bumpy and partly overgrown.
Cobblestones have smooth tops, but cobblestones do not; that's why they are also called cobblestones.
