As early as 1350, there was a chapel on the highest hill in the town, which was assigned to the neighboring administrative headquarters of the Neunhof district. It belonged to the district of the Kirchröttenbach parish. The current church was built as a late Gothic choir tower church in the last third of the 15th century. The surrounding churchyard was originally fortified. However, the defensive character was lost as early as the 18th century, but the defiant bell tower, the building of the former oven and the remains of the surrounding walls on the north and east sides of the cemetery have survived to this day. In 1528, St. John's Church was incorporated into the Beerbach parish.
