At the suggestion of St. Adolar in Achelstädt around the year 750 a small wooden church was built on the site of today's village church. When the church was built from stone is unknown. The small church was dedicated to the saints Adolar and Martin. Achelstädt was confirmed by church leaders as pilgrimage site (Wikipedia).
