This used to be the Ice Cellar of Hoekelum Castle. In the winter, blocks of ice were chopped from the pond and stacked in this cellar. They were doused with water to create a compact block of ice. This ice was used to keep food and drinks cool until the summer. The cellar was restored in 1994 and now serves as a winter shelter for bats.
