The prison of Kolokotronis in Palamidi has today taken on mythological dimensions. The crowds of visitors visit and see as the prison of Th. Kolokotronis a pitch-dark dungeon in the central bastion of Agios Andreas, next to the arch of the church of the same name, where one enters instead of a normal door, through two identical successive gates dia. 1.05 x 0.70 m., in a rectangular dark vaulted space dia. 2.70 x 3.40 m., with a rocky sloping unformed floor at a varying depth of 1.30 – 1.60 m., no stairs. The unique stone staircase has been constructed in the recent past for the access needs of visitors. Here was the command post. It was the best equipped bastion. At the back of the central courtyard is the small church of Agios Andreas, originally dedicated to Agios Gerardos, patron saint of the Sagredos family. During the Greek Revolution, Palamidi was captured on St. Andrew's Day, and the Greeks dedicated the old ruined Venetian temple to his memory.
