Mt Soledad is a popular vantage point, also for the locals, which offers a beautiful view of San Diego, Pacific Beach and the surrounding landscape.

Although it looks very peaceful up there, from the locals' point of view it is a place around which there is a long controversy. It is about the question of the meaning of the cross at the highest point above La Jolla. It was strictly rejected by some because, in their opinion, it excluded other religions and marked the La Jolla community below as strictly Christian. In fact, for several decades, Jews were refused to buy real estate in La Jolla. This continued until the 1960s. The conflict was surprisingly not legally settled until 2016.

I remember living in SD in the 90s that it still moved people back then.
