Frenswegen Monastery was founded in 1394 as the Augustinian Monastery of St. Marienwolde. It is located in Frenswegen, surrounded by some old farms, on the northwestern edge of the Lower Saxon town of Nordhorn in the county of Bentheim. Frenswegen was the first German monastery, which joined the Windesheim Congregation in 1400. On October 25, 1809, the monastery was abolished, the last choirmaster moved in 1815 from. In 1974, an ecumenical meeting place was established in the monastery building.

    A really impressive structure!
The contrast between old and young building fabric is interesting. And the labyrinth framed by herbs in the former orchard of the monastery is definitely worth a look. Here you are slowed down. The route is the goal.
