Fort Bull was strategically built by the British to guard the Oneida Carrying Place against French attacks. It ended up being destroyed during an attack in 1756, and Fort Wood Creek was built as replacement; nowadays it is marked as a historic site. Today the site of the original fort is a grassland area surrounded by trees, and is a peaceful place to have a picnic.
