The footbridge was built in place of a non-existent wooden bridge over the Dunajec River and its construction refers to it. The historic bridge was built in 1871-1872 and was the first permanent crossing in this area. It was destroyed on July 16, 1934, as a result of the largest flood in Poland in the interwar period. The bridge, as well as a place nearby, in the Krościenko nad Dunajcem commune, is called "Zerwany Most".
