A very beautiful statue. The statue is meant to honor Panagis Vallianos, a Greek historical figure who was not only a wealthy merchant but also a generous benefactor of his homeland. It is located at the top of the renovated square in the heart of Argostoli, the square was named after him. If you approach from the waterfront, the statue is at the back left of the square.

The statue depicts Panagis Vallianos (also Panayis Athanase Vagliano), a significant Greek shipowner and patron. It is located in the central Vallianos Square (Platia Vallianou) in Argostoli.
Panagis Vallianos (1814-1902) is considered the "father of modern Greek shipping". Originally from humble beginnings in Keramies, he, along with his brothers, built a globally operating trading and shipping company from London.
As a national benefactor, he financed, among other things, the construction of the National Library of Greece in Athens. On Kefalonia, he left a legacy that financed numerous schools, hospitals, and churches.
