The Biella funicular connects the lower station on Via Curiel in the Piano district with an upper station on Via Avogadro in the medieval Piazzo district.
The funicular was first opened in December 1885 and was initially hydraulically operated, in 1899 it was converted to electric operation and in 1975 equipped with new trams. The line reopened in July 2018 after a further closure for maintenance and a renovation costing €1.8 million. Both sets have a capacity of 18 passengers.
