The Ironhorse Trail is a rail-trail and is part of the Trans-Canada Trail. It goes from Waskatenau, AB to Abilene Junction, just south of Ashmont, AB. It forks at Abilene Junction, heading Northeast to Cold Lake and Southeast to Heinsburg. Most towns along the trail have a staging area where you can start or end your ride.
The Ironhorse Trail is a multi-use trail, so you can expect motorized vehicles such as motorcycles, quads, side-by-sides, horses, and such. It is very difficult by bike so I recommend a fat tire bike at the least.
Waskatenau has a small campground beside the ballpark and a good selection of food and drink at the Petro-Canada station on the highway.
