Located halfway along the western front (via Marconi), between the civic tower and the Marini tower, the Cardelli tower, with a pentagonal plan, was the strut of the fortress. In the defensive logic, with its wedge shape, it responded to a tactical function, as it was feared, not without some justified reason, that the attacker would be coming from the mountain rather than the valley.
The Marini tower is located in the south-west corner of the fortified enclosure, it was revived in the seventies with projecting brackets and crowning battlements.
