It is an ancient flint mine. One of 2 in this area of the Forest. The mine is on a slope. Such a characteristic hill with dug shelves and holes along its entire length. At the top of the hill you can see the flint mining sites much better. Regiments were dug into the slope and then tunnels deeper. Sometimes they look a bit like trenches.
