At Godley Head, a coastal defense artillery was built during World War II. Remains of this plant still exist today. On information boards you will find more information on site.

This observation post was used for short distances and for pointing the searchlights. In good conditions, this post had a visibility of about 30 km and offered the radar support. The building had thick concrete walls and steel shutters for protection. The grass grown on the roof serves to camouflage and is still present today. The Women Auxillary Army Corps (WAAC) operated this post. Groups of eight women with a male artillery officer occupied the observation post during the night and during the day when bad conditions obstructed the view from the upper observation posts.
