The Horumersiel sea rescue station is one of the oldest stations of the German Sea Rescue Association (DGzRS) on the North Sea. Horumersiel is located in the Oldenburg region and has a marina outside the town on the Wangersiel. There, on the south side, on a pontoon, is a sea rescue boat (SRB) for the station's volunteer sea rescuers, who are accommodated in a harbor building. The sea rescue alert is usually raised by the DGzRS headquarters in Bremen, where the Bremen Sea Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Bremen) constantly monitors all alert routes for sea rescue.

      History

The history of the station begins in 1866 with the establishment of a station on the dike near Schillighörn. For this purpose, the then Association for the Rescue of Shipwrecked People for the Oldenburg Coast had procured a short English Peake boat for six rowers, which had to be pulled into the surf using a transport wagon and horses. Two years later, the DGzRS took over the station and in 1871 moved it south to the old sluice harbor of Horumer Siel. There the heavy boat lay on a drain wagon, on which it could be pulled into the rescue shed and quickly lowered for use.

In 1873 a new boat for ten rowers was delivered. The first mention by name of a boat VEGESACK (I) was made in 1881. It had been donated by Wilhelm Hartmann, who had emigrated to England. In 1904 he donated another boat, the VEGESACK (II), a German standard lifeboat.

Very nice marina and from here you also have the opportunity to take trips on the Jade with the passenger ship Jens-Albrecht.
