Jean-François de Galaup de Lapérouse is one of the famous Albigensians, born in 1741 in the Gô manor. Louis XVI appreciated the human qualities and talents of the sailor of this young captain. He entrusted him with the great expedition of the reign of two frigates La Compass and l ’Astrolabe. 225 men, sailors, scholars and artists left Brest in 1785 along Brazil, Chile, Alaska, California, China, Russia, Australia… and ran aground in 1788 in Vanikoro (Solomon Islands) in the Pacific. During this voyage, he worked precisely and preciously on cartography, on scientific research.
