The Aralt originates in the territory of the municipality of Orsago and flows into the Livenza in Francenigo, municipality of Gaiarine, after about 10 km, in the so-called upper Livenza territory. It is a classic resurgence river, with a constant flow, and in Orsago it originates just below the Treviso-Udine railway line, in the so-called resurgence belt.

For much of its course, the river passes through parts of the countryside subjected to intensive agriculture, but also stretches that maintain their naturalness. Even though it passes through the town of Francenigo, the river has no bottlenecks of any kind, and with good reservoir capacity it flows into the Livenza.
The Aralt was the energy source of the mills that made Francenigo and its proto-industries rich until the advent of electricity
