This is a museum specializing in sculpture, commemorating Nakahara Teijiro, a sculptor with ties to Asahikawa who left a major mark on the history of modern Japanese sculpture.
The building that serves as the museum, the former Asahikawa Kaikosha, is unique as an authentic Western-style club building in Hokkaido, and has been designated an Important Cultural Property by the national government for its excellent design.
