The Hornád (Hungarian: Hernád; German: Hernach[2], rarely: Kundert[3]) is a 286 km long river in eastern Slovakia and northeastern Hungary. 195 km of the river runs through Slovak territory.
It is the fourth largest river in Slovakia and a popular holiday region due to its picturesque upper course in the Slovak Paradise. In the mountains south of its course, various ore deposits have been exploited since the Middle Ages, which once helped central Slovakia to achieve a certain level of prosperity.
