Karl-Marx-Allee was built starting in 1951 in East Berlin and was initially called Stalinallee. It was conceived as a prestigious socialist boulevard with monumental residential buildings in the so-called "wedding cake" style and renamed Karl-Marx-Allee after 1961. Historically, it is closely linked to the popular uprising of June 17, 1953. Today, the avenue is a significant urban planning monument and also an important traffic artery. Cyclists primarily use wide, partly newly designed cycle paths; in recent years, sections have been modernized to make cycling safer and smoother without compromising the street's historical character.

An impressive avenue from the Stalin era, clad in ceramic tiles, that was social housing. Built with thousands upon thousands of hand-made bricks, especially from the Zehdenick clay district. In the late 19th century, countless clay pits were operated there and the bricks were hardened in over 60 ring-fired kilns and transported by ship via the Havel and Spree to Berlin.
From Straußberger Platz to Proskauer Straße. Be sure to take a look ❣️
