"... the first three civilian victims of fascism of Vittorio Veneto, Antonio Boffa, Giovanni Casoni, Temistocle Tomassi. Commemorations are often not enough to do justice to the many sacrifices made in the name of freedom and democracy. Some episodes, then, they are overwhelmed by the oblivion that arises from general indifference.
This is the case of what happened on 12 April 1944 on the banks of the Meschio in Cordignano: three anti-fascists, honest citizens and family men, without trial, without hesitation, were killed in retaliation following an event to which they were absolutely unrelated.
Boffa's son, Franco, writes thus: "The people of the city knew these exemplary figures and, by their heroism, by their courage, they were enlightened and led to understand the importance and gradually the duty of personal and collective commitment, in taking on the challenges of the hour."
