The door of S.Giovanni, built at the end of the century. XII, it was called the "door of the notice", and then S. Lazzaro, from the hospice of the same name for lepers which stood not far from there. Renovated in 1555-56 by the mayor Girolamo Zorzi, the gate, with its beautiful architecture where a round arch predominates, lost its defensive character to take on that of the main entrance to the city for men and goods coming from the nearby Fondaco. Above the inscription, which recalls the intervention of the podestà Zorzi, we note the Marcian lion in the "andante" position, chiseled in the time of Napoleon.
Once through the door you enter via Martini della Libertà, so called after the Second World War in memory of those who, during the immense conflict, sacrificed their lives to regain freedom.
