The city's sons who died in the First World War are remembered. There is also the Treaty of Trianon, as a result of which Hungary had to cede large parts of its territory after the First World War, including to what is now Ukraine and Romania, but also to Croatia, Slovenia, etc. Unlike the Treaty of Versailles for the Germans, Trianon still plays a major role in the national memory of the Hungarians, as large parts of the population in the ceded territories still see themselves as Hungarians.
