The old Krautsand lighthouse went into operation on January 1, 1901 after two years of construction and initially served as a leading light. In 1905, a lantern was placed about 200 m in front of it and so it became the upper light. It became the lower light until 1908, when the new upper light on the lighthouse path on a steel lattice tower prefabricated in segments was put into operation.
