According to older sources, the frog fountain must have been created with the construction of the cloister in the 1920s, featuring a relief of a warrior and memorial plaques for Templin residents who fell in World War I. Since the 1970s, the four stone frog figures, which had stood on the edge of the fountain in Röhnisch-Platz since 1924, had disappeared without a trace. After being stolen from the fountain, they could be seen in the Bürgergarten for a while before never being seen again.
Thanks to the efforts of some Templin residents, the frogs were able to return to their original place on the edge of the fountain on April 21, 2021. The frogs, created by Berlin stonemason Erik Lüpke, face the four cardinal directions. Each of them holds a symbol in its hands. For example, the first frog holds a key, which represents knowledge. The third frog holds a ball for eternity in his right hand and the fourth wears the crown, which symbolizes wealth and power.
