Davos as a congress venue (World Economic Forum WEF)
In addition to winter and summer sports, the congress industry is also important for the Davos tourism industry today. Thanks to the construction of the congress center in 1969 and the gradual renovation and expansion, it has become possible to hold meetings and congresses at an international level.

      Davos as a health resort
The history of Davos's health resorts begins in 1853 and is linked to the name Alexander Spengler. Because he was sentenced to death in Germany in 1848, he fled to the mountain farming village of Davos, which at the time had 1,700 inhabitants. He soon recognized the healing effects of the Davos climate and made its healing effects known. His special achievement was that he saw the great future potential of Davos. Together with the Dutchman Willem Jan Holsboer, he built the Spengler-Holsboer health resort in 1868. The latter was also largely responsible for the construction of the railway line from Landquart to Davos in 1890. This was the beginning of a new development. Hotels, guest houses, sanatoriums and villas sprang up like mushrooms. Today, only two of the numerous high-altitude clinics from that time are still in operation. They are no longer used to cure tuberculosis, but rather to treat allergic and infectious diseases of the airways and lungs.
