Savaria was founded as part of the Roman Empire in 41-45 AD. During the reign of Emperor Claudius, according to the records of the historian Plinius, the city was built for serving soldiers. Its original name was Colónia Claudia Savarensium.

The Roman-era aqueduct was unearthed in 2003 during archaeological research prior to the construction of the overpass in the border of Bucsu. The stone-vaulted canal, built with a terrazzo base, could transport about max. 1875 l/sec of water in the direction of Savaria.

After the rains between June 9th and 13th... The excavated part of the Roman aqueduct was flooded... too! It is still our favorite resting place.
