The Tahoe East Shore Trail offers an incredibly scenic journey along Lake Tahoe's eastern shoreline, providing continuous views of the lake's crystal-clear, cobalt-blue waters and dramatic granite boulders. This smoothly paved, 10-foot wide path is a moderate 5.6-mile (9.1 km) hike with 377 feet (115 metres) of elevation gain, typically taking around 2 hours and 26 minutes. You'll find 16 vista points and direct access to stunning beaches like Sand Harbor Beach and Hidden Beach, making it a perfect blend of exercise and relaxation.
Parking is available at several points along the trail, but it's highly recommended to arrive early, especially on weekends or during peak season, as spots fill up fast. The trail is open year-round, but for the most pleasant experience, consider visiting during the spring or fall. While generally easy, there's a short, moderate climb near Incline Village that provides some of the most spectacular views before the path dips back towards the shore.
Known as "America's Most Beautiful Bikeway," the Tahoe East Shore Trail transformed a dangerous stretch of highway into an accessible route for everyone, including families and those with strollers. Along the way, 25 informative panels highlight the region's history, geology, flora, and fauna, adding an educational layer to your outing. It's a fantastic option for an easy hike that delivers big on classic Lake Tahoe scenery.
