Content: The unemployed former GDR sports reporter and passionate billiards player Jakob Zuckermann, alias Jaeckie Zucker (Hübchen), has long since stopped seeing himself as a Jew. The Berliner is in deep financial trouble when he receives news of his mother's death and with it the hope of an inheritance that could help him out of his predicament. However, the will hits Zucker twice: his mother has stipulated that following her funeral at the Jewish cemetery in Berlin-Weißensee, a seven-day mourning period should be held according to Jewish tradition, which Zucker is to carry out together with his devout brother Samuel from the West. Only when the brothers, who have been at odds for decades, reconcile during the mourning period, will they receive their inheritance. The family comes together at the Jewish cemetery in Weißensee for the funeral of Jaeckie (Hübchen) and Samuel's (Samel) mother. Content: The miniseries, which was produced on behalf of Netflix, tells the story of 19-year-old Etsy (Haas), who leaves the ultra-orthodox Jewish religious community of the Satmar people in New York and starts a new life in Berlin. The scenes set in America are loosely based on the 2012 book "Unorthodox" by Deborah Feldman, in which she describes experiences from her childhood and youth. The storyline in Berlin, however, is fictional. The series was filmed almost entirely in Berlin in the summer of 2019. Content: Season 4, which takes place in 1930 and 1931, focuses on the world of Orthodox Jews in Berlin during the Weimar Republic. In one scene, the American gangster Abraham Goldstein (Mark Ivanir) - who emigrated to the USA and has now returned to Berlin to recover a valuable gemstone from the family property - visits the grave of his uncle Moses Abraham Goldstein.
