The people of Huancayo mobilized on January 1, 1813 to swear the liberal Constitution of Cádiz. In a ceremony held in what is now Plaza Constitución, a stone with the inscription was placed and after cheering, the population promised to respect it. The oath was also taken in Jauja in October 1813 and later in Tarma, but this fact has endured in Huancayo due to the resonance it had throughout the country.
