Tips

  • The Rabaçal River Grand Route is marked by three extraordinary and distinct pedestrian trails (PR?S). The Rabaçal Ecovia Grand Route can begin in Sonim, Tinhela, or near the mouth of the Torto River, with its epicenter at the Rabaçal River Beach. For those who begin further north, as is the case in Sonim, you will encounter an exceptional landscape marked by pristine nature and characteristics highly representative of the Trás os Montes region. Along this route, in addition to the adventure and direct contact with nature, you will be invited to experience an exciting moment on the Ferrata installed along this route, which is the only one in the region north of the Douro. On the route that begins in Tinhela, you will be invited to experience a journey through history, with ancient signs of agricultural and technological practices such as mills and wine presses carved into the rock. It is also along this route that you will experience the greatest contact between agriculture and the landscape marked by vineyards and olive groves. In Rio Torto, south of the epicenter of the Rabaçal River, the route is the simplest, the landscape is more open, and it offers the opportunity to visit the bird observatory and the naiads that live along the riverbanks. A landscape marked by riparian vegetation all the way to the village of Cachão, a wonderful but abandoned village that will delight the whole family. Along the Rabaçal Ecovia Grande Route, we highlight the presence and contact with three rivers: the Calvo River, the Rabaçal River, and the Torto River, as well as some less important streams more abundant with aquatic fauna. The faunal richness of the Rabaçal and Torto Rivers is undeniable, with over 100 bird species, 10 amphibian species, 12 reptile species, and 12 mammal species. The Rabaçal River Ecovia is characterized by unique landscape diversity and, above all, and for the vast majority of the entire route, silence and contact with unspoiled and unique nature.
