The Diemel Dam (DiT), which consists of a reservoir, dam wall, hydroelectric power station and balancing basin, is owned by the Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration; the Weser Waterways and Shipping Office (formerly the Hann. Münden Waterways and Shipping Office) is responsible for operating the dam. Along with the Edersee, the Diemelsee is one of the water-regulating dams in the Weser catchment area.
