A very beautiful little town where you can feel at home. Traismauer is located in the lower Traisen Valley in Lower Austria. A small part of the municipality lies north of the Danube. Here, on the Danube, lies the lowest point of the municipality at 190 meters. To the west and south, the land rises to over 300 meters. The highest elevation is Reutbühel (350 meters) in the south.

In 1517, the market town received its coat of arms from Archbishop Leonhard von Keutschach. In the 16th century, Traismauer had its own jurisdiction. The first school was completed in 1555. Around 1810, the Scheibl family created the final version of the Traismauer nativity play. In 1868, Franz Matthias Miller converted a mill into a steelworks, and further industrial facilities were established. In 1885, the Tulln–St. Pölten railway line, which runs along Traismauer, was opened. The town was granted city status in 1958.
