Sal Rei (Portuguese for salt king, because of the salt deposits) is a city in the northwest of the island of Boa Vista in the southeast of the Cape Verde Islands and serves as the district and island capital. With 10,936 inhabitants (census June 16, 2021), the city is the largest municipality in Cape Verde from the 18th century after Cidade Velha.
