Between Ponzano Romano and the mouth, the area that hosts the Tiber has a meandering bed, a peculiarity that characterizes the course of the river as it flows in this stretch.
The particularly lively morphology creates bends and the river takes on decidedly sinuous flow characteristics which, right at the height of Ponzano, create a meandering so pronounced as to give rise to the so-called flask shape. This is why the Tiber fiasco.
The two bends of the river, in practice, come close to almost touching each other, creating a narrowing that exactly resembles that of the typical container.
