Also known as the Independence Monument, the structure was built using the plinth of the former Otto von Bismarck monument from 1912 and, after installing the sculpture by Stanisław Jackowski, it was unveiled on November 30, 1930 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the return of Pomerania and part of Powiśle to Poland and the 100th anniversary of the eruption November Uprising. After the outbreak of World War II, the monument was destroyed, and the replica of the monument was unveiled again only on October 11, 1986.
