The Maashorst primeval area is the largest nature reserve in Brabant. Between Nistelrode, Heesch, Schaijk and Zeeland lies a green area rich in forests, fens and heathland. Maashorst nature cemetery is located in Schaijk, on the Franse Baan. A long avenue of trees leads to 't Ven, which forms the beginning of a herb-rich grassland where open forest areas and heaths are embraced by trees and the open fields extend over the nature cemetery.

Herperduin is an almost 500 hectare forest and heathland area between Oss and Ravenstein. A large part of the forest consists of heathland that was partly created to control the drifts around Herpen at the beginning of the 20th century.
