This bridge between Frauenbreitungen and Herrenbreitungen over the Werra used to cross the border between the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen and the Electorate of Hesse.
The Werra formed the outer border of the Hessian exclave of the Lordship of Schmalkalden.

Hiking

There are many Werra bridges in Breitungen. This one separates Frauenbreitungen from Herrenbreitungen and was already mentioned in the 12th century as Klosterbücke. At the end of the 19th century it was destroyed by floods, ice and war. And since 1905 this bridge has been a link between the Rhön low mountain range and the Thuringian Forest.
