The remarkable architecture of the park's secular buildings is unusually lavishly decorated in neo-renaissance style. The buildings have wrought-iron gates, some of which are adorned with gilded doorknob rosettes and lion's heads, with their muzzles fitted with rings for knocking and raising the gates.
The site of the later water park was dedicated to water supply in the course of the rapidly growing population of Frankfurt in the 19th century.
