The earthquake of 29 June 1873 damaged the structure, which suffered further damage between 1917 and 1918 when the Austro-Hungarian army, which had invaded the Veneto after the defeat of Caporetto, used it as a field hospital; the 1936 earthquake caused new problems, which were remedied with a restoration completed in 1944.
