Countess Marie Margarete Waldstein had the chapel built between 1724 and 1730 near an older wooden sanctuary that was demolished in 1811. The chapel was built in gratitude for the healing of a family member by the water from a local spring, which has since been said to have healing properties. The chapel was later dedicated to Saint Procopius, who is even more frequently used to name the chapel today.
