Cholera was also rampant in Graz, but was contained after a few weeks. In gratitude for the fact that the city was largely spared, its citizens, together with the municipality of Gösting, built the "Cholera Chapel" in 1833 in the immediate vicinity of the present-day Gösting castle ruins.
