The Milestone
The historic milestone made of shell limestone, re-erected here in 2022, was, like all its counterparts, erected after the introduction of metric length in Germany in 1872. Its original location was likely at the motorway crossing over Federal Highway 13 between Gollhofen and Oberickelsheim. After the stones became obsolete for orientation purposes, most of them were removed around 1980. Thus, the adjacent stone ended up in a remote storage area for decades, where it was accidentally rediscovered in 2019 by a member of the "Heimat- und Museumsverein Uffenheim und Umgebung e.V." (Uffenheim and Surrounding Area Local History and Museum Association). After being released by the Ansbach State Building Authority, it was renovated in cooperation with the Uffenheim City Administration and its building yard and found its new home here.
