    In 1990, the old viaduct from 1847 was demolished. The five-arched middle section (the northern and southern extensions had three arches) was completely worn out and could no longer cope with the demands of modern rail traffic. The new viaduct took two years to build and also included the pedestrian bridge running south. The new construction also eliminated the narrow passageways for road traffic.
