Weilstein Castle, the former home of Ivan Rebroff, looks like a small, defiant castle behind seemingly defensive walls. If you approach the almost five hectare property on the other side of the Weil on its only access road, the forest blocks the view of the castle. And a wrought iron gate prevents visitors from entering. Built at the end of the 1920s by the Wanne-Eickel brewery owner Hülsmann, the castle sits on a hill between Treisberg and Hunoldstal. Various archways around the inner courtyard as well as turrets on the seven-story brick building with a copper roof give the nostalgic hunting lodge the ambience of an old castle, which is common in the region.
In 1969, the artist agency “Artist Promotion AG” acquired Burg Weilstein at the request of Ivan Rebroff, one of the partners.
