Only a few remains of Lauterstein Castle, which was lost here, remain. You can find a few walls between the natural rocks.
The rock castle existed at least from 1219 (first mentioned). There is no complete agreement about the time of destruction. It either took place at the time of the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648) or as early as 1556. It was certainly intended to protect the mills near the Lauterquelle.
The Swiss doctor and scholar Paracelsus (1493/94-1541) probably stayed at the castle as a guest.
