The protected sand dune was created during the Late Glacial by upwelling of material from the Elbe terraces. Many rare species of mushrooms are found here, for example the porcini mushroom, the blue mushroom or the amethyst mushroom. Sand-loving insects such as the anteater or the honeybee beetle live here. The rare gray sedge grows here.
